PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR NON EU
Permanent residence entitles a third-country national to stay on the territory of the Slovak Republic, travel abroad and back, work, do business, study or perform other activities in Slovakia during the period for which it was granted. Foreigners with permanent residence have the same rights and obligations as Slovak citizens in most areas of life (e.g. employment, health care, social affairs, public life at the regional level)
PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR FIVE YEARS
police authority may grant the permanent residence permit for five years to a foreign national:
- who is a spouse of a Slovak citizen with a permanent residence in Slovakia or who is a direct dependent relative of a Slovak citizen with a permanent residence in Slovakia
- who is a single child younger than 18 years and has been placed under the custody of a foreign national who is a spouse of a Slovak citizen with a permanent residence in Slovakia
- who is a single child younger than 18 years of a foreigner with a permanent residence permit for five years or a child younger than 18 years that has been placed under the custody of a foreign national with a permanent residence permit for five years
- who is a dependent child older than 18 years, not able to take care of himself/herself due to a long-term unfavourable health condition of a foreign national with a permanent residence permit
- or if it is in the interest of the Slovak Republic
the applicant must attach the following documents to the application form:
- valid travel document, two photographs, a document proving the the purpose of residence, document providing clear criminal record - the criminal record is not required from foreign nationals younger than 14 years of age, or to change of type of residence, or in case the foreign national had already submitted it when applying for their previous residence permit, document providing financia coverage and written consent of the parent who has the right to meet the child - the applicant under 18 years of age, also declatation on accommodation.
PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR AN UNLIMITED TIME PERIOD
the police department will grant permanent residence for an unlimited time to a national of a third country, if he:
- has held the permanent residence for five years at least for a period of 4 years
- is a child younger than 18 years of age of a foreigner with permanent residence for an unlimited time
documents required to apply for permanent residence for an unlimited time:
travel document, two photographs and documents not older than 90 days, confirming:
- financial security of stay, health insurance on the territory of the Slovak Republic and integrity, if it is a child older than 14 and younger than 18 years of a foreigner with permanent residence for an unlimited time
- the police department may also request a document not older than 90 days confirming the provision of accommodation and an affidavit that the reasons for granting permanent residence continue to exist
LONG – TERM RESIDENCE
a national of a third country can apply for a long-term type of residence if:
- resides in the territory of the Slovak Republic legally and continuously for a period of 5 years immediately before submitting the application
- his long-term residence permit was canceled or expired for reasons established by law
- has 5 years of authorized, continuous residence in the territory of the member states as a holder of a blue card and stays in the territory of the Slovak Republic as a holder of a blue card for at least 2 years immediately before submitting the application
application for long-term residence must be submitted with two photographs and documents not older than 90 days confirming:
- stable and regular resources for yourself and your family members, (employment contract, employer´s confirmation of the amount of the salary paid, confirmation of the balance in the account held in the bank in the name of the national of a third country, proof of receipt of pension, sworn statement of the guarantor, that it will provide the national of a third country with financial and material security during his stay on the territory of the Slovak Republic)
- provision of accommodation
- health insurance
It is granted for an unlimited time. In case of granting long-term residence in another member state, the foreigner´s long-term residence in Slovakia will terminate. Likewise, if he does not stay outside the Slovak Republic for a certain period of time, his long-term residence will be cancelled.
